Flood insurance debacle back in the spotlight Leeside

It follows a march in Athlone over the weekend.

Flood victims have hit out at the government for the rate of progress in ensuring flood cover for their communities.

Hundreds of people took to the streets of Athlone at the weekend to highlight the issue and they criticised the failure of the insurance industry to reinsure areas where flood defences have been put in place.

The Taoiseach told RedFM News that the insurance industry say some temporary flood measures are inadequate - but he believes flood cover should be provided if flood defences have been erected

Enda Kenny says a government report will be issued later this year on the issue and that the insurance industry is cooperating with the report.

Speaking to RedFM News, Blackpool based Jer Buckley from the Irish National Flood Forum says people are still without any assurances on flood cover.
