Flood protection plan for Cork City expected to be completed by 2022
Junior Minister Sean Canney unveiled details of the long awaited €140 million scheme today and it's expected 200 houses will be protected within the first year
It could be 2022 before a flood protection plan for Cork City is fully completed.
Detail of the long awaited €140 million scheme have been unveiled today as many home and business owners operate in the city with no flood cover as Cork has been badly hit by heavy flooding on five occasions over the past 8 years.
This new scheme, which is one of the biggest to be undertaken in Ireland aims to cover 900 affected homes and 1200 businesses.
The plans which are based over five phases include new raised quay walls, flood embankments and a new flood alert system.
Speaking to RedFM News Junior Minister Sean Canney says the plans will be open for public consultation from today.
