Foreign Affairs Minister: Edwin Poots Resignation As Leader Of DUP Deeply Destabilising For Northern Ireland Executive

He resigned just three weeks into the role, after party members revolted over his deal with the UK's Secretary of State on introducing the Irish Language Act
The role of Paul Givan as First Minister is now being called into question, as he was nominated by Mr Poots without consultation with party members.
Minister Simon Coveney says the Irish Government needs to help the DUP to stablise:
"The last thing Northern Ireland needs now is an election in the short term. There is due to be an election next May, but there's a lot of work to do between now and then. We need to try to support a party like the DUP to actually re-elect a new leader, to stabilise their party, so that we can get back to functioning with an executive, that has a leadership that stable and strong."
