Form on rent control could be on the cards

It's in a bid to help families facing continued increases.
The Environment Minister is expected to seek cabinet approval for a form of rent control within the next few weeks.

The Irish Independent reports that the Attorney General has cleared the way for the temporary measures, to stabilise the market.
In Cork, rent in the city has seen an increase of 7.5% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year while the county has seen a rise of 6.7%.
It's understood rent increases will be linked to inflation.
Karl Deeter of Irish Mortgage Brokers says longer leases would provide more stability for tenants.
