Former Debenhams Workers Say They Voted To Accept €3 Million Training Fund As They Had No Other Options

330 workers at the company's two outlets in Cork lost their jobs last year when the company's Irish operation went into liquidation
On Thursday they voted to accept a settlement offer involving a €3 million training fund aimed at resolving their long-running dispute over redundancy payments.
Speaking to RedFM News, former shop steward Valerie Conlon says they had to accept the deal after more than 400 days on a picket line but she says they will continue to fight for better supports for workers:
"At the end, it's going to be coming down the road again. There's going to be more people once the pandemic is over; there's going to e more retail shops closing. If this is the example that our government is showing to the employee - it's not a very good example, really."
