Former U2 stage manager rescued by Kinsale RNLI

A former stage manager of U2 who was brought to shore by Kinsale RNLI after being at sea in a malfunctioning boat for 52 days says he was never afraid.

Pete Currier was sailing from the Caribbean to Wales on his 51 foot boat when the engine broke down after three weeks at sea.

Pete, who has also worked with Prince and Nirvana among others,  raised the sails however a lack of wind meant he spent 10 days adrift in the ocean.

Eventually he made it to the Cork coast and contacted the Coast Guard...

Kinsale RNLI towed the stricken vessel into the town, where Pete says he will spend the next few weeks repairing it.

Speaking to RedFM News, Pete says time spent worrying about his situation would not have changed the outcome.

"I've never been afraid in my life, I've never seen the point of being afraid it's a waste of energy as far as I'm concerned.

"What if any kind of emotional state is going to affect that? None at all, so just get with it.

"I toured with rock bands for many many years, and back in the days before the internet if something broke you had to fix it, and I got really good at that stuff.

"It's amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it!"
