Fraud Warning Has Been Issued To Cork Companies
It comes after a number of incidents around the country in recent weeks of invoice re-direct fraud and CEO fraud
In a statement issued to RedFM News Gardai revealed that one company lost more than €200,000 to fraudsters while another lost almost half a million euro.
A garda spokesperson said 'criminals send emails to business purporting to be one of their legitimate suppliers. The emails contain a request to change bank account details. In many instances the business does not know it is a victim of a crime until sometime later when the legitimate supplier sends a reminder invoice for payment.'
