Fresh calls for an end to Direct Provision

A lunchtime demonstration is taking place in the city.

A demonstration is about to get underway in the city calling for an end to the system of Direct Provision.

Anti-Deportation Ireland are holding the rally today in protest at the environment asylum seekers in Ireland are having to live in.

It comes after two high profile protests were held in two Cork direct provision centres in the past year by residents who say they feel like they're trapped in limbo awaiting a decision on citizenship status.

Over 4,000 people are kept in Direct Provision in Ireland, with one in five of those there for more than seven years.

Speaking to RedFM News Joe Moore from Anti-Deportation Ireland Cork describes the conditions people are living in.
