Fresh calls for mandatory CCTV in Irish taxis

Fresh calls are being made for the mandatory installation of CCTV in all Irish taxis. It comes after the government were called upon last year to provide funding to protect taxi drivers by means of in car CCTV and perspex glass separators following an incident on Patrick St last year, in which Cork taxi driver John Ford was brutally attacked and robbed by two passengers. He told his story on the Neil Prendeville Show on RedFM which sparked a debate about driver safety in the city. Mount Mercy secondary school students are seeking public support for their campaign 'ATTAXI CAB' which has been examined by the Transport Minister Paschal Donohue and the National Transport Authority. AUDIO: Speaking to RedFM News at the Young Social Innovators Event in City Hall this week, these Mount Mercy students say they've heard of so many cases of attacks in cabs since they launched the campaign.
