Fresh concerns about ambulance routing and response times

Concern has once again been expressed about the routing of ambulances outside of the county in which they're based.

It's after a Cork County Councillor claims she was waiting three hours for an ambulance after she slipped in a Youghal café in December.

An ambulance was called for Mary Linehan-Foley as it was feared she has sustained a fractured hip in the fall.

Three hours later an ambulance arrived from Waterford City and it's understood the ambulance was then forced to stay at Cork Univsersity Hospital for a further two and a half hours waiting for the return of their trolley.

Speaking to RedFM News Councillor Linehan-Foley says the paramedics aren't at fault and their safety is also being compromised:

Meanwhile SIPTU recently spoke out about the routing of Cork ambulances outside of Cork to RedFM News.

The National Ambulance Service's control rooms were moved from Cork and Kerry four years ago which means that emergency operators must get the first available resource, no matter where in the country, to respond to a call out.
