Fresh Hopes For The Opening Of A Vacant Step Down Facility In Cork

The Minister for Housing has reignited hopes that a vacant step down facility in Cork may finally open its doors.
The 19 bed Cuan Mhuire centre for recovering addicts on the Western Road has lain idle since 2007 due to funding issues.
Minister Eoghan Murphy would not comment on the specific centre but pledged to discuss the issue with the HSE and the City Council in order to find a resolution.
The centre says it will cost €300,000 per year to operate the facility and could be opened within weeks if the inter agency group agrees on funding.
Homeless figures Leeside continue to rise with 66 families living in Hotels & B&B's during the month of August.
