Funding Shortage Means Rowing Ireland Couldn't Send Rowers To Austria

Three Cork rowers including - Paul and Gary O'Donovan, couldn't travel to compete in today's Rowing World Cup II

A funding shortage means that three of Cork's most successful rowers, including Paul and Gary O'Donovan, couldn't travel to Austria to compete in today's
Rowing World Cup II

Rowing Ireland has confirmed to RedFM News that they had no choice but to withdraw from this year's tournament which has left the athletes unable to defend their medals.

An increased demand and interest in rowing across Ireland means Rowing Ireland has to cater for more people in the sport with the same limited funding and they had to withdraw from the Austrian tournament in order to ensure that their athletes can attend the World Cup III (3) in July

Rowing Ireland has been getting the same level of funding since 2017 despite the increased demand

Speaking to RedFM News Michelle Carpenter from Rowing Ireland says it's time for more investment in the sport
