Further Delay For Cork Events Centre

A planning change has thrown the start date for construction into doubt

The start date for construction of Cork's long awaited Events Centre in the last quarter of this year has been thrown into doubt.

It comes after the chief executive of the projects' contractors BAM, confirmed that a change in planning means the Events Centre is facing another delay

The original plan was to construc an office block on the South Main Street side of the project but this has been changed to incorporate an entertainment space which amounts to a change of use, so a new planning application must be submitted.

This will lead to a delay of up to 6-8 weeks and BAM says it means it will be very tight to try and meet the construction start date of the last quarter of this year but they remain hopeful

No decision has been issued as yet from central Government on application for additional state funding, however BAM reaffirmed their commitment to the long awaited project
