Garda Commissioner refuses to step down

Noirin O'Sullivan is refusing to stand aside as Garda Commissioner - insisting she is innocent and had no role in any smear campaign.

In a defiant statement, she says standing aside would be the easy option, but one she won't take as she's done nothing wrong.

Her statement follows calls from Micheal Martin to 'assess her position' in the midst of the ongoing McCabe scandal.

Meanwhile, the row between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil is escalating, over claims that Fianna Fáil told Frances Fitzgerald about the existence of a Tusla file on McCabe a day before it emerged on TV.
