Garda Commissioner Drew Harris will be questioned by the Policing Authority today about why thousands of emergency calls weren't acted on.
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris will be questioned by the Policing Authority today about why thousands of emergency calls weren't acted on.
They include unanswered calls from domestic violence victims, children and Travellers in 2019 and 2020.
An internal Garda inquiry has been conducted, and Commissioner Harris will provide an update at today's public meeting.
Social Democrats co-leader, Catherine Murphy, says some Gardai may have to be dismissed.
"We haven't got sufficient information, but if it's down to a small number of Gardai who have a bias - can they continue in the force?
"There needs to be a proper investigation, I wouldn't pre judge the outcome of the investigation but I wouldn't preclude that leading to disciplinary action including dismissal."
