Cork garda recovering in hospital after patrol ramming incident
The officer had been out on patrol in response to reports of a number of burglaries in Co. Waterford.
A Cork garda is recovering in hospital after being injured in pursuit of a gang who had carried out a burglary in Fermoy yesterday evening.
The Rathcormac officer who is stationed in Cappoquin was injured when his patrol car was rammed by the gang between Cappoquin and Dungarvan.
The garda who is in his 30s was taken to Cork University Hospital with suspected neck and back injuries and is due to undergo various scans this morning.
The incident happened after a travelling criminal gang - believed to be from Clondalkin and Tallaght - were spotted leaving a house on College Street in Fermoy following a burglary at around 8 o'clock.
Gardai in Fermoy obtained a good description of the gang's car and circulated it nationally.
Detectives are also investigating whether the same gang were behind a spate of burglaries and thefts in the Kanturk and Newmarket areas last week after a similar car was seen in Duhallow.
