Gardaí in Cork target mobile phone use behind the wheel

A crackdown on the use of mobile phones while driving, as part of a special garda operation is in effect across the city and county today.
The operation will run until midnight and gardaí in Cork will be targeting motorists who use their phone while driving.
Nine road fatalities have been recorded on Cork roads so far in 2016 - that's four more deaths than this time last year.
Speaking to RedFM News Traffic Superintendent for the Southern region Pat Lehane says motorists need to be reminded of the dangers of using a mobile phone while driving:
