Garda unit in Cork set up to monitor anti-water charges protests

The unit is set up to ensure no protest becomes violent.
A new garda unit has been established in Cork city to ensure that water protests don't get out of hand.
The unit which is made up of 20 gardaí, four sergeants and an inspector became operational this week and will be deployed to demonstrations which have the potential to become violent.
The Garda Representative Association has expressed concerns that gardaí attending these protests aren't being replaced and they're now calling for the immediate recruitment of additional gardaí.
Protesters meanwhile have branded the move unnecessary and say the potential for burglaries in the run of to Christmas is a much bigger threat than their campaign.
Opposition to the fee has escalated in recent weeks Leeside with the latest demonstrations in Ballyphehane attracting a large garda presence.
Speaking to RedFM News however these campaigners in Ballyphehane say they won't back down with the threat of arrest.
