Gardaí appeal for information after two armed robberies in Cork

Detectives believe the robberies are linked.

Gardaí have appealed to the public for assistance in trying to catch an armed raider whom they believe was behind two armed robberies in filling stations in Cork city and county over the weekend.

A lone raider armed with a handgun and wearing a balaclava held up a staff member at the Amber filing station on the Bandon Road at 4.45am on Saturday before making off with a few hundred euros.

The man, whom gardaí believe was in his late 30s or early 40s and was described as tall, fled on foot but detectives believe he may have then driven off in a getaway car he had hidden nearby.

Meanwhile gardaí in Mallow are investigating a separate robbery at the Topaz garage on the Limerick Road in Mallow at around 1am on Saturday.

It's understood the man fled with under €200 and escaped on foot but gardaí again believe he then drove off in a hidden getaway car nearby.

No shots were fired in either robbery and no one was injured but the staff involved are said to have been left badly shaken.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in either area are asked to contact gardaí in Bishopstown gardai on 021-4541012 or Mallow Gardai on 022-21105.
