Gardaí appeal for witnesses after fatal collision in Rathcormac

A man has been confirmed dead after a road traffic collision in North Cork this morning.
The incident which happened just south of Rathcormac village and involved a van and a motorcycle and happened shortly before 8 o'clock this morning and emergency services, including units of the Cork County Fire Service and emergency ambulance crew attended.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The van driver was uninjured in the collision.
The body remains at the scene and the road is now closed to all traffic and diversion routes are in place and are being operated by gardaí.
The road closure and diversions will remain in place for the rest of this morning and possibly into the afternoon to faciliate a forensic collision investigation.
Traffic travelling south from Rathcormac towards Conna and Midleton will be affected. Traffic on the M8 Cork/Dublin road is not affected.
Gardaí in Fermoy are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 025-82100.
