Gardai Foil Raid In North Cork
Gardai have arrested a 22 year old man following a foiled robbery on a filling station in North Cork last night. The lone masked raider entered the Applegreen Filling Station in the Spa in Mallow around 8.10pm and threatened the three staff with a handgun and demanded cash. The raider put the gun to the head of one of the staff but in the course of trying to get money from the till, the staff member tackled the raider and managed to disarm him. The two other staff members had pressed an alarm button and gardai from nearby Mallow Garda Station were on the scene within two minutes and arrested the 22 year old man, who is from Limerick. Gardai also recovered a balaclava and an imitation firearm at the scene, both of which will be forensically examined by garda technical experts. Nobody was injured in the raid.
