Gardai in Cork clamping down motorists

They'll be out in force over the coming months

It's part of a number of national operations getting underway this month with Gardai targeting the four main offences of alcohol, speed, mobile phones and safety belts.

13 people have died on Cork roads so far this year and Gardai are advising motorists to take care on the roads as the winter weather season nears.

They're especially urging motorists to check their tyres during colder conditions.

It's the final day of Irish Road Safety Week - but safety chiefs say the message doesn't end there.

The AA's Barry Aldworth says preventable road crashes happen daily and we need to bring the road safety message with us, every time we go on the road.
