Gardai investigate northside shooting
Community leaders have appealed for calm following a shooting on the northside of the city over the weekend. It comes after a man was injured in a retaliation shooting linked to an ongoing feud between rival gangs. Gardaí believe the shooting may be linked to an earlier row last Friday. There are also reports the injured man may not have been the intended target. The 20-year-old was standing with a group of people in the Fairhill area at around 11.30pm on Friday when they were approached by another group. A member of that group produced a weapon believed to be a handgun and the 20-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his back. His attackers fled the area on foot and the victim was taken to Cork University Hospital where his injuries were described as not life threatening. He was discharged from hospital over the weekend. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Gurranabraher garda station on 021 4946200.
