Gardaí launch investigation after city centre assault

The victim was disturbed in his Gilabbey Street house in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Gardaí have launched an investigation after a man in his 40s was assaulted at his home in the city centre over the weekend.

The victim was disturbed in his Gilabbey Street house in the early hours of Saturday morning when a group of young adults had congregated outside.

He went out to ask the group to move on when he was attacked. He fell and was repeatedly kicked in the head.

The culprits ran when they saw his wife on the phone. 

He was taken to the Mercy University Hospital for his injuries.
