Gardaí locate car used in patrol ramming incident

A Cork garda was injured in the incident.

Gardaí have located the car used by a travelling criminal gang to ram a garda patrol car earlier this week.

A Cork garda from Rathcormac was injured in the incident and was taken to Cork University Hospital and kept overnight.

The gang were seen leaving a house on College Street in Fermoy after a burglary at around 8pm on Tuesday shortly before the ramming incident happened.

It's believed the gang involved in the ramming, which took place between Cappoquin and Dungarvan at around half nine on Tuesday night, are operating out of Dublin.

Detectives are now hoping that a forensic examination of the black Audi A4 which was found abandoned in a nearby woodland will provide some clues as to the identity of the gang.

They have established that the car was brought into Ireland from the UK and fitted with false plates matching a similar car legally registered to another person uninvolved in crime.

Garda believe the same gang carried out a series of burglaries in Tipperary last week and they're investigating if they are also behind a spate of North Cork burglaries in Kanturk and Newmarket.
