Gardai receive thousands of missing persons reports each year

Every year Gardaí receive approximately 9,000 reports of missing people across the country.

The majority of those cases are solved - but for some families their loved ones never return home. 

Today those left behind have gathered in Dublin to mark the annual day of missing persons. 

One of those is Fiona Pender who went missing 20 years ago from her home in Tullamore county Offaly - she was pregnant at the time:
