Senior Gardaí say plans to double the number of community police in Cork will help tackle anti-social behaviour.
The move comes as part of a new Garda restructure programme which is being piloted in the City Garda Division.
The programme will see an increased civilian involvement to free up Gardaí for frontline duties, with an extra 24 Gardaí being appointed to the community policing unit
The Irish Examiner reports that plans to open Carrigaline Garda Station during office hours have also been finalised following a number of antisocial incidents in the town in recent weeks
