Gardaí say there’s been a massive rise in investment fraud during the pandemic

People are often lured into parting with their cash for the promise of enormous returns, but often don’t report the crime as they’re too embarrassed.
The most popular scams at present involve crypto currencies such as Bitcoin.
Detective Inspector Steven Meighan explains how people are lured in:
"People are sitting at home during pandemic times. They're obviously very worried about their financial future. They may have some money that they want to put aside for a rainy day, and they go online and the first thing they see is they see a very professional glossy website endorsed by celebrities and promising massive returns."
