Gardai urge motorists to slow down over Bank Holiday Weekend

11 people have died in Ireland over the August Bank Holiday weekend over the past 5 years.

That's according to figures released from the Gardai who are appealing to motorists to take care on the roads on one of the busiest bank holidays of the year.

Checkpoints will be located on all major routes in Cork over the weekend, and drivers are urged to slow down, wear their seat belt and never drink and drive.

The Road Safety Authority have released figures showing that Cork has the highest level of road fatalities in the country.

17 people have died on Cork roads since the new year.
