Good news for bathers - water quality remains high for most beaches around Ireland

Just six beaches in Ireland are classified as poor in the latest EPA report.

The figures show half are located in Dublin and the other three in Galway.

Overall the quality of Ireland’s bathing waters remains very good with 130 of 140 meeting strict EU standards.


In Cork - The Warren in West Cork, Garryvoe and Youghal Front Strand in East Cork were classed as being of sufficient water quality but the EPA warned that they remain at risk of episodic pollution events 

Improvements were recorded at Coolmaine, Fountainstown, Youghal Claycastle and Front Strand, Redbarn and Garretstown
