Government Talks Of Potential Re-Investigation Into Stardust Tragedy

The government says a new commission of investigation into the cause of the Stardust fire will be set up if substantial new evidence is found from the 1981 tragedy.

However, many opposition TDs are calling for an immediate re-investigation into the nightclub blaze.

The families of victims and survivors have repeatedly raised questions over two previous reports and state inquiries into the fire, which claimed the lives of 48 people in north Dublin.

In 2009 the Government released the Coffey report, which examined whether the Stardust case should be re-opened by the State following a tribunal in 1982.
