Government to decide whether to formally appeal EU Apple tax ruling

Fianna Fáil and Labour say they will support an appeal, but all other opposition parties have hit out at the plan.

The government will decide today whether to formally appeal the EU's tax ruling against Apple.

But Michael Noonan says the state must respond to attempts by the European Commission to dictate Ireland's tax policy.

European officials have spent three years looking at whether Apple channeled all of its European sales through Ireland to benefit from our low corporate tax rates.

Meanwhile Cork Chamber has called on the Government to appeal the European Commissions findings.

Apple who has its European Headquarters in Holyhill was recently granted planning permission to extend its base on the Northside of city and the extension was expected to translate to almost 2,000 extra jobs
