Government warned Cork's housing shortage could stifle investment

The Lord Mayor says Cork needs to be able to offer more housing for people who wish to locate and work in the city

Urgent calls are being made on the Government to tackle the housing shortage crisis in Cork city.

The City's Lord Mayor Cllr Chris O'Leary says Cork needs to be able to offer more housing for people who wish to locate and work in the city

His comments come on foot of Apple's announcement to create 1,000 new jobs at their European Headquarters at Hollyhill.
The positions, some of which will be for graduates, will increase the tech giant's workforce Leeside to 6,000 employees and are set to come on stream by mid-2017.

Just last month the lack of accommodation Leeside was highlighted by the owner of Voxpro who says he is being forced to place their overseas staff in hostels

Management at the firm have warned that they will have to examine future expansion plans, given the serious shortage of rental housing available for employees in Cork.

Speaking to RedFM News the Lord Mayor says it's time for the Government to take decisive action
