Group opposed to M28 project vow to continue their fight
The M28 Steering Group who are opposed to the construction of a new motorway which will run south of the City via Carrigaline before reaching Ringaskiddy say they will continue their fight.
The group were unsuccessful in the High Court before Christmas where they sought a judicial review of the decision to grant planning for the €40 million project.
RedFM News has learned that the group plan to seek a certificate to proceed to the court of appeal, and failing this petition the Supreme Court to appeal the decision which was taken in the High Court on December 20th.
The new motorway, which was given the green light last year, will cater for 4,000 trucks a day which will be using the route when the Port of Cork operations are moved to Ringaskiddy.
However residents living alongside the new infrastructure say it will negatively impact them, with concerns about noise and air pollution as well as traffic congestion.
Speaking to RedFM News Tánaiste Simon Coveney says the concerns of the residents have to be taken into account and due process is needed in this regard, however the project is an important one for Cork:
