Growth of Carrignavar village could be at risk unless local water treatment facility is upgraded says Community Council

The Community Council say developers are not interested in building homes there

Carrignavar Community Council are warning the prosperity and growth of their village could be at risk unless the local water treatment facility is upgraded.

The village is located around 10 kilometres from Blackpool and has a number of brownfield sites, however the community council say developers are not interested in building homes there.

The current treatment facility on College Road in the village is around 40 years old and the council are now calling on Cork County Council to prioritise it for upgrading.

Speaking to RedFM News, Carrignavar Community Council Chairman Tom Howard says many young people can't get planning permission for new houses in the area:

"The village would grow but it cannot grow unless there's new people coming into the area, and they won't come into the area, if they can't get planning or build houses for them, which is not included in the 2022 to 2028 development plan. For Irish Water here, what we are trying to do is get this plant included in the plan,  it will be upgraded, within the next six years, which is the life of the plan of what we want is to have an upgraded within the next two years of possible."
