Guns and ammunition seized in Cork
A man remains in Garda custody this morning in connection with the seizure of two firearms in North Cork. The guns, along with ammunition imported from the US, were discovered at a courier depot following a joint operation between Revenue and An Garda Síochana. A follow-up operation was put in place to find those responsible for the illegal importation. A 28-year old man was arrested following early morning house raids on three locations in the Mallow area. A number of mobile phones and computers were also seized during the operation. The man, said to be originally from the Mallow area, was arrested and taken to Cobh Garda Station, where he's being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. He can be held for up to 48 hours without charge and that can be extended by a further 24-hours if requested by a chief superintendent.
