Heroin needles found stashed in city church

Heroin paraphernalia has been found stashed in a city church. Discarded heroin needles and cook spoons have been found in St.Finbarr's South Church. The items were discovered by cleaners near the front door last week. It's not known whether addicts had been shooting up inside the church before the discovery. It comes as gardai say they are aware of several heroin blackspots across the city centre and have stepped up patrols in these areas. Meanwhile, gardai have now been called on to adopt a zero tolerance approach to heroin. Independent Councillor Mick Finn wants an expansion of the needle exchange programmes or the introduction of an education programme for users in the area. He's also called on several agencies to combine to tackle the problem.
