Highest number of work fatalities reported in Cork

Almost half of all workplace fatalities in 2016 were on farms

That's according to figures released from the Health and Safety Authority which showed that, of the 21 fatalities on farms, 12 related to tractors and machinery.

Cork had the highest number of work related fatalities in 2016 with 8 deaths reported last year.

Overall there has been a 20% drop in workplace related accidents across all other sectors, with men between the ages of 25 - 65 shown to be at most risk.

Speaking to RedFM News HSA Chief Executive Martin O'Halloran says while the reduction in fatalities is welcome, they will continue to use inspection and enforcement to reduce numbers even further for 2017.
