Home schooling Mum seeks answers from the state on her arrest

A mother of six who was jailed and released within a matter of hours yesterday over the non-payment of a home-schooling fine would like to know how much her prosecution cost the State. Monica O'Connor was arrested at her home in Tullow in Carlow yesterday morning and taken to the Dochas women's prison at Mountjoy where she was processed and locked in a holding cell. She and her husband had refused to pay a €2,000 fine imposed last June for failing to register two of their children for home-schooling. Her husband Eddie is also now facing a 10 day spell behind bars. AUDIO: Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Monica says she feels her arrest was a waste of taxpayers money.
