Lack of accommodation and soaring rents are a contributing factor to the homeless crisis in Cork
A Cork homeless charity says the housing market is in such a state of disarray that their emergency shelter is now over flowing.
Cork Simon say they turned away up to eight people each night last week from their emergency shelter as they were unable to cater for them.
Concern has been expressed about the homeless situation Leeside after it emerged that some homeless have developed frost bite and trench foot on Cork streets.
Lack of accommodation and soaring rents have been blamed for exacerbating the situation Leeside.
According to recent figures rents in Cork have increased by 14% and are expected to rise by between 22% and 26% over the next 2 and a half years.
Speaking to RedFM News Paul Sheehan of Cork Simon says there's been no development over the past year.
