Homelessness on the rise in Cork

Cork South Central TD Michael McGrath believes Cork families should be protected from losing their homes at all costs

Cork Families should be protected from losing their homes at all costs.

That's according to Cork South Central TD Michael McGrath, following figures from the Courts Service showing 150 families in Cork had their homes repossessed since last year.

The Minister has called on the Goverment to put sustainable solutions in place for those in mortgage arrears, such as split mortgages, capital writeoffs and interest rate reduction.

The report on Housing and Homelessness released last week, showed a national housing emergency and recommended rent supplement be increased and over 10,000 social housing units be constructed.

Speaking to RedFM news Minister McGrath says throwing people out of their home justs adds to the homelessness crisis
