Hopes Brussels meeting could provide breakthrough for Cork-U.S flights

Fears have been expressed that the planned Cork to Boston flights won't be delivered in May.

The taskforce behind a new Cork tourism strategy say the project's five year plan isn't dependent on transatlantic flights out of Cork.

Fears have been expressed that the planned Cork to Boston flights won't be delivered in May as a U.S license has yet to be granted to Norweigan Air International who will be operating the route. 

The airline has since moved to reaffirm it's commitment to the launch of the first transatlantic flight in Cork and says its position hasn't changed.

A meeting is taking place in Brussels today between Cork TD Dara Murphy and the US Ambassador to the EU where the issue is being raised.

The ambitious tourism initiative launched yesterday in the city aims to grow tourism by 23% and created an additional 9,000 jobs.

Speaking to Cork's RedFM Chief Executive of Cork County Council Tim Lucey says the strategy isn't dependent on transatlantic flights or a Cork-Dublin route:
