Hopes Cork to US route will proceed as planned

The route has hit a stumbling block in recent weeks.

Minister Simon Coveney says he's hopeful the much anticipated flights between Cork and the US will get the green light.

It's feared the first international flights from Cork to the US scheduled for May by Norwegian Air International won't go ahead as US authorities are yet to grant a license to the airline.

The European Commission is the latest to weight in on the issue and  says the delay in the permit application is contrary to the EU-US Open Skies deal which allows for any EU approved airline to fly from anywhere in Europe to anywhere in the US.

Speaking to Cork's RedFM Minister Simon Coveney says the government is working to overcome this stumbling block.
