Hopes for local economy boost if green light given to €6m expansion plans at Vienna Woods Country House Hotel

It's hoped plans by a well-known Cork hotel to almost double its bedroom capacity and add a spa will provide a boost to the hospitality sector Leeside as the country slowly emerges from the grips of the COVID19 pandemic.
Vienna Woods Country House Hotel has lodged a planning application with Cork City Council to add an additional 42 bedrooms to the hotel as well as a spa and a 25-seater cinema.
It's hoped the €6 million project will provide a huge boost to the local economy as well as satisfying the anticipated need for hotel rooms in the city as the night time economy returns.
Speaking to RedFM News Michael Magner of Vienna Woods says if given the green light the project will also provide an employment boost Leeside:
"Well pre pandemic we employed 97 people here at the hotel, and hopefully we'll be back to those numbers sometime in the future. But if the new project was complete, we'd be looking at creating an additional 50 full time jobs. So that would be a huge boost to the local economy in terms of, I suppose additional jobs, additional contribution to wages and salaries, of course more jobs means that we have more demand on the hotel so more indirect money going into the economy engaging with suppliers, better visitor numbers for Cork."
