Hopes high for return of Irish Open to Cork

Speculation is mounting about the return of the Irish Open to the Cork region. The tournament which was hosted in Fota Island Resort over the past five days has been hailed a major success drawing huge visitor numbers Leeside. However despite the benefit to the local economy the focus is now being put on finding a title sponsor that can boost the prize fund beyond €2m. It comes after Fáilte Ireland reduced their investment in the tournament by €250,000 this year. AUDIO: Speaking to RedFM News however Director of the European Tour Antonia Beggs says the success of the tournament in Cork would make them consider a return to the region.
