Householders could face hefty bills to replace lead pipes

It's expected a grant scheme will be rolled out to help low-income households meet the cost.
Householders could be facing bills worth thousands of euro to replace lead water pipes in their homes.
Irish Water now estimates that 200 thousand domestic properties around the country are affected, particularly if they were built before 1970.
The cabinet's to discuss bringing in a grant to help those on lower incomes replace the pipes today.
Jerry Grant from Irish Water says in affected homes, the water supply probably will be contaminated by above-recommended-levels of the metal.
