Progress on a planning application to increase student accommodation on the site of the former Beamish and Crawford site is expected next week.
That's according to the Housing Minister who says the government is acutely aware of the housing shortage difficulties in the rental sector.
Cork's Simon Coveney says the increase in rent supplement in July is just part of the plan to dramatically increase supply Leeside
It follows concerns about a major lack of accommodation for both UCC and CIT students ahead of the start of the academic year.
