Housing Plans For Travelling Community At Ellis' Yard Met With Strong Opposition

Cork City Council is expected to lodge a planning application for the houses in the coming months. 

Plans to build houses for members of the travelling community on the site of a former illegal dump in Ellis' Yard have been met with strong opposition.

However concern has been expressed about the plans which have been branded unsuitable by Cllr Ken O'Flynn who says the land is not appropriate for families and should be rezoned for sport and recreational purposes. 

Speaking to RedFM News local resident Noreen O'Sullivan says the site could cater for a high rise development which would accommodate more people in the midst of a housing crisis:
