Housing strategy to be launched this summer
Minister for Housing and Cork's Simon Coveney made the announcement today.
The Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government says he will launch a new strategy to deal with the housing crisis by the end of July.
Simon Coveney's comments come as he was due to address a meeting of Cork City's Council's housing committee today.
A new report from the Housing Agency shows there are over 200-thousand vacant homes across the country and he says some of the idle properties could be used for social housing.
Meanwhile, a housing protest organised by Sinn Fein was planned outside this evenings Council meeting at City Hall.
Speaking about the new strategy, Minister Coveney says the government's main focus is to increase supply in the housing market.
