HSE Says St. Kevins Is Salvageable Following Report By Structural Engineer

A visual inspection by the structural engineer has taken place at the site of Tuesday night's blaze at St Kevin's Asylum on the Lee Road.

The HSE says it has been found to be "salvageable"

The Irish Examiner reports that a recommendation to knock the building has not been made however two dormer pediments in the section of the building damaged by fire will be marked and dismantled stone by stone.

A more detailed inspection will be carried out in the coming weeks once the building has been made safe.

The HSE has defended security measures at the derelict site and say a CCTV system had been installed as well as 235 panel shutters to prevent access to the building.

Meanwhile gardaí are expecting a forensic report on the cause of the fire there in the coming days which will aid they're investigation.

They will also be examining CCTV footage as well as online content and have appealed to anyone who has any information to contact them.

It's understood they're looking for three individuals in relation to the incident.
